I don't think it should hurt your personal credit report history unless your father starts racking up huge unpaid debts on the joint credit card accounts, or starts defaulting on his payment obligations. However, I would recommend that you start sticking to your own credit card lines instead of having such joint accounts with your dad. You don't want to be constantly dependent on the unpredictable whims and unforeseen actions of others.

I was wondering if someone could answer a question for me. My dad had me listed on one of his credit cards over 12 years ago when I was in high school in order to built my credit. I just took a look at my credit report and wondered if it is possibly hurting my score now. He has always been on time with his payments, but there is almost $11k on it while it has a limit of $25k. I also have a few cards with a total limit of around $12k, but I only have debt on those accounts of around $1k. Does anyone know if it will hurt or help me if I request to have his account taken off of my credit report?

Insightful. This tip, "Don't Cancel Credit Card Accounts " is very misunderstood, and it's good to get the word out.
I happen to have a blog post on the same subject...Improve your FICO credit score: Top 14 tips. Learned a little something new from your post, perhaps I need to update.

I also use MyFico Score Watch to monitor my FICO score. I know from experience if your fico score is low, it's difficult to even get a credit line increase on your credit card, let alone get any new credit. It's vital to keep your CC balances below 50% of your total credit lines. Ideally you want to pay off your CC's in full each month, but that's not always possible.

Very good advice. Another site I read also mentioned asking for an increase in your credit limit on your credit cards so that your debt to debt limit ration is better.
