In order to get the money you have to send in the form that was attached to the cert. So, that one doesn't work. How do I know? I sent them an e-mail when it didn't work for me.

DP,
If you are a newbie investor and simply want to get your feet wet in the world of investing, I would suggest starting out with an invest that's more predictable and less volatile. My recommendation would be SPDR S&P 500 Fund (ticker symbol - SPY). The fund trades like an ordinary stock and attempts to closely track the stock prices found on the S&P 500, a broad index of mostly American large cap companies. I think it'll be a good place for you to start.
I have a few recommended finance books up in the Recommended Reading section up near the blog header.
