I’m a homeowner and, while my home is losing equity right now, I still enjoy the peace and quiet that comes with owning a home vs. renting. Also, owning brings other benefits as well. You have the freedom to change whatever you like (within zoning and HOA rules), you can be much louder than in an apartment and you get a nice tax break. I’m just hoping I can keep my head above water so I can keep paying my mortgage. Good thing I stuck to the 28% rule and went with a fixed rate when I purchased the home back in 2007.

My dreams were also shattered when I could not qualify for a housing due to lack of funds. It's really frustrating the way house prices are are going higher now a days. May be it's also a cause of concern for our country's economy.

I sold the year before the bubble and kicked myself ever since as I am looking at an impossible market till now to get back into. I hold off now due to finances and maybe that 2010 is sounding like my time to.

The best we can all do is meet with a lender see if we qualify if not work on the credit rating and improve it and prepare to enter the market and save that deposit. Good Luck with the home search. I agree rentals are not so bad no yardwork and no insurances to pay.

My husband and I got caught up in the "housing bubble." We couldn't even afford a house close to work (not to mention the new additions all look like Monopoly boards--if you don't know your house number, you'll never be able to tell which one's yours). We wound up buying 1 acre and putting a double-wide manufactured home (formerly known as mobile homes or trailer houses) on it 25 miles from work.
It worked out for the best for me, because I now have a small herd of miniature horses, something I would never have gotten in town, but the looming $4 a gallon gas and the 50 mile minimum travel daily make things financially tight (not to mention the ridiculous price we paid for our 1 acre of Texas blackland!)
At the gas pump I wish I still had my Honda Civic and lived closer in. At home (terrible mortgage payment and all), I wouldn't change a thing!
