I agree with you - in my last job, whenever I was greeted by a friendly customer, I wanted to do something more for that person. People naturally do gravitate towards those who are happy and friendly. Offering a smile, a compliment, striking up a friendly conversation - these are all subtle ways to encourage and uplift a person's spirit. If I giggled and acted silly all the time no one would take me seriously. I'll be so chipper asking people to remove late charges or taking down tenant complaints. I like to think it helps, though I'm not positive.
