You are in love with a lie. Patti's web site says the exact opposite of what she is doing on TV, Remember, TV is for "entertainment purposes only." Her web site says all they are going to do is hand the guy a phone number and it's up to HIM to call her, set up the date, pick her up, create the itinerary, etc. Patti's only obligation, for $25,000- is simply to pick a number out of her database, or she says she can get the number from an outside source, like a $10- a month dating web site, like match.com. She also said if he wants a girl nearby, then she'll charge him an additional $25,000- to look in his area. Doesn't she get these free girls from his area on a local basis? This alone is highway robbery. Also, the free girls aren't guaranteed a date or even to be accepted. The web site says if they want a guarantee in dating, it'll cost the girls $50,000-. There's the catch. And last, if the guy wants to quit even before he goes out on his first date who lives 500 miles away because he didn't want to pay the extra $25,000-, then TOO BAD, because there are NO REFUNDS. Now that's a robbery. This is why you should see www.themillionairedatingclub.com for the truth.

I hate the guys on this show. I feel like in many ways, it's almost a man-hating show, portraying men as shallow and having no real interests or personality.

Or, is that just rich guys? ;)

Nice article. I also enjoy watching the show. The only problem with Patti is that while she is trying to hook up millionaires and hot women for the long haul ( marriage) she herself is not married, but "in a long-term relationship". Maybe the old adage " those who can't do ,teach" is really true in this situation.

Emily, haha thanks for the vote of confidence.

Yes I am glad there are others out there who enjoy watching some of these more scintillating television shows as well. Not a fan of total trashier shows like Jerry Springer, but I do enjoy watching other true to life programs without all the politically correct fluff. Another good show is MTV's True Life series.

How funny! I happened to catch this show for the first time today at my sister's house and thought of writing an article about it as well. The words "train wreck" and "can't look away" were definitely going through my head. You've written a great analysis here!

Mrs. Micah,

You know, I wonder about the female millionaires myself. The show has focused only on male millionaires so far since that seems to be the stereotype they are milking for the moment.

But I get the feeling if the show ever featured wealthy women looking for love, the women would find it substantially more difficult to find a male match since society perpetuates the view that although it's okay for men to date "down", it's less okay for women to do the same. The women millionaires would probably need to be matched up with comparatively wealthy or successful men (although the stereotype goes that these same wealthy men would rather snag a younger, trophy wife). Oddly enough, a successful female millionaire is not generally considered a trophy wife unless she's a young inherent of wealth like Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump's daughter.

Fascinating analysis. It's sad to watch rich people working themselves into train wrecks. But there's a certain fascination too. It shows money doesn't equal anything but money, power, and perhaps more freedom (though these men are workaholics). Which means that we might as well shape up even if we're not millionaires yet. And if we become millionaires we'll still have to work on it.

It basically sounds like these men are having a hard time even attracting trophy wives...

What do millionaire women look for, I wonder?
