I am getting a refinance loan for my home and am including some of my credit cards to be paid off. I have one that's in my name that will be paid off. This card is in my name buy I let someone else use it and they have gone to the limit, I am wondering if there's a way for me to get my name off the account after it's paid off or do I have to close the card. I have tried to let this person know not to let it get above $2000 but I get lied to about the balance. Some is used for medical because he falls in the donut hole. I have had the card for approx.6yrs and he has promised to pay me directly for the card being paid off and I plan to use that money to help pay down the loan. Also because of this my credit score that used to be great is only 677.

Jenny,
My advise is to never include the information for a balance transfer when you apply for a new credit card. Most issuers will give you 30-60 days from receipt of the card to completa a balance transfer at the low introductory APR. By applying without a balance transfer, you will know your credit limit before you tyransfer any balances. This way you can decide wheter or not to completa transfer after you know how much is available and avoid the kind of situation that you are in. Keep that in mind in the future.

Just FYI on the Disney Chase card....they just jacked our interest up to 20% and when you call then to discuss it, they will NOT negotiate with you. You have to mail a letter to try to dispute it. From what I've googled, the person's name and the letter get nowhere. Unfortunate, because I love Disney, but they've associated themselves with a ripoff company.

Can someone please assist me here? I just opened a new card and tried to transfer 2 balances to it, one at $3500 and one at $7500, for a total of $11,000 on the new card at 0% for a year. When they gave me the card, it had a $3000 limit. When I went online and tried to transfer some of the $3500 card balance to the new card, it said a transfer was already pending for that card (I had indicated a balance transfer for this card $3500 first on the app, then $7500). Now today I got a notice stating that they transferred $2700 of the $7500 balance to my new card. So, instead of having one card with all my debt, I now have 3 cards! Not to mention they transferred the money off the card with the lower APR! I'm so pissed! How do they decide which one to transfer when you list two? I listed them in order that I wanted them to transfer them in case I didn't get the credit limit I wanted. I can't find any information on how they make the decision on which to transfer. I read all the small print also. The whole reason I opened the card was to have only 2 (or one) open account, now I'm stuck with 3!

I just had the exact same experience as Anon right above me here. I applied for the Linux card through US bank specifically to do a 0% balance transfer. Just got the card and the credit limit is only $2,000, and of course the transfer was denied. I have another US Bank card with a $16,000 limit so this made no sense at all. called cust. svc. and all they could tell me is that $2k is all I "qualified" for - I even told them to look and see that I have another card with them for $16K. But that didn't make any difference. I'd have to wait 6 months to increase my limit, which does me no good...This must be yet another reaction to the economy and the recent restrictions imposed on CC companies, I'm guessing?? IN any case I'm off to looking for another...

Just to let you know - I wanted to do a balance transfer, so I signed up for the CITI Freedom card. Imagine my surprise when they offered me a credit line of only $1800! For comparison purposes - I have never had a card with less than $5k line of credit, and most of my cards are $10k to 20k. I asked for it to be increased - they said no increases until 6 months. Of course, the 0% on the BT only lasts 6 months, so that's useless to me. Just wanted to warn you all.

BE AWARE, from my own experience that I just finish with CAPITAL ONE CREDIT CARD. Don't fall in to the trap like me that they say "TRANSFER A BALANCE WITH NO FEE FOR CUSTOMER ONLY", press transfer to see the promotion. On October 1st, 2009 at 12:30 pm; when I get online Capital One Credit Card to check for my balance; I saw the message "TRANSFER A BALANCE WITH NO FEE FOR CUSTOMER ONLY", press transfer to see the promotion. I press and it said with 0% until May, 2010. To good to be true, especially when you got a laid off. I call CAPITAL ONE customer service to confirm is it true? and a lady told me that 0% promotion with no transfer fee that I had it will be end on June 1st, 2010, so make sure pay off before that day, otherwise they will charge me 13.9%. I told her that I will make a $15,000.00 transfer if it is really 0% and she said, yes, it is true. But then later on they send me a statement charge me arms and legs. My point is even anytime you call and they said: Apparently, it's OK for them to record calls for "training or verification purposes" be assume that they never use it or they not so stupid to use it when you call back and tell them; you charge me arms and legs when one of your employee confirm with me that arms and legs is not charge, you can listen to your recorded on that date to hear that confirm. IT'S NO USE. Be aware from "TRANSFER A BALANCE WITH NO FEE FOR CUSTOMER ONLY", press transfer to see the promotion, and if the promotion come out 0%, make sure you will be the one to tape that conversation, write down first and last name the person you talked with, write down the date and time that you call them. Guess what? They charged me Finance Charge is $200.50. This is my first experience use CAPITAL ONE, and it will be it. I had a very good credit score. I'd used CHASE, BANK OF AMERICA and CITI. I love it. Their Customer Service is more professional and helpful and they don't cheat you and this is from my own opinion.
