The additional brokerage coverage above the SIPC coverage is nothing at all. ETRADE provides an additional $600 million aggregate coverage, but that is for all their accounts. They have over $200 billion in customer assets; therefore, the payout rate could be as low as 0.5%. This coverage looks more like pretty window dressing.

Thanks for the information about sipc insurance on brokerage accounts. All that information is available to you before you start an account with them while making the account and on the website every time you login. I just opened an account with them because of the 100 free trades promo. It wasn't like they make it out to be though you have to start off with an initial 1000 deposit and then the 100 freebies are only within the first 45 days of the opening day then 60 days until you get rebated. Gotta read the fine print. I love the ETRADE researching tools though The graphs are easily customized ive never seen anything else like it cant beat them there. As of now you might want to take the gamble and put some money into the company at about 1.50 a share. A lot of people are getting into the market right now.
