Usually their usefulness comes not from their intimate tax expertise, but by their ability to offer lower income clients an outlet to turn to for help. I was watching the TV and saw a commercial for the IRS Free File program and somehow stumbled onto this blog post. Most people I know use TurboTax and TaxCut, and some even use TaxAct for their tax prep needs...didn't know they offered free tax preparation and filing assistance before... The low income tax payer clinic free service looks very promising for lower income families...may have to look into it
